    Composite Machining Solutions

    Composite Machining Solutions

The use of composite materials in parts manufacturing is gaining more popularity due to their high strength to weight ratio, particularly in the aerospace and automotive industries.
ISCAR offers a range of coated and PCD drills designed to handle composite drilling and other applications, including the tools below.

Note: All tools shown here are for CNC use only.

    1. Full Nib PCD Drill
    • Specifically for the drilling of composites and composite/stack/Al/Ti applications in medium to small hole sizes.
    • The drill point is a solid PCD diamond nib for maximum wear resistance and flexibility of the insert geometry.
    • The solid nib is resistant to cracking and chipping and has a large regrinding area for multiple sharpening.
    • Can be reground up to 5 times.

    2. Wafer Drill
    • Manufactured with a solid diamond wafer.
    • These drills can be used on a wide range of composite, composite stack and engineered materials.
    • The solid wafer is resistant to cracking and chipping, and offers the largest possible regrinding area.
    • Can be reground up to 5 times.
    • Can be supplied with through-tool coolant holes.

    3. CVD Diamond-Coated Solid Carbide Drill
    • Extraordinary tool life.
    • Can be supplied with through-tool coolant holes.
    • The low resistance wavy cutting edge reduces delamination and burrs when drilling CFRP and CFRP/aluminum stacks.
    • CVD diamond coating achieves outstanding abrasion resistance and smoothness.
    • Can be reground up to 5 times.

    SCD-FNPCD [METRIC]
Solid Carbide Drills with PCD Full Nib Insert for CFRP and Stack Machining

    SCD-WPCD [METRIC]
Solid Carbide Drills with PCD Insert for CFRP and Stack Machining

    SCD-CVD [METRIC]
Solid Carbide Drills with CVD Coating for CFRP and Stack Machining

    SCD-FNPCD [INCH]
Solid Carbide Drills with PCD Full Nib Insert for CFRP and Stack Machining

    SCD-WPCD [INCH]
Solid Carbide Drills with PCD Insert for CFRP and Stack Machining

    SCD-CVD [INCH]
Solid Carbide Drills with CVD Coating for CFRP and Stack Machining

Typical drilling cutting conditions for all items above
    * When drilling CFRP/Al stack, reduce feed in aluminum section by 30%.
In titanium stack, reduce feed by 50%.
Pecking is required in titanium mostly and in aluminum when aluminum part thickness is more than 50% of drill diameter.
